Mattie Balagat is a third-year Filipino college student studying environmental anthropology and development studies at the Discovery Program for Global Learners at Okayama University, Japan. With half of her mind back home in Pasig City, Philippines, she is passionate about leading, co-creating, and researching for climate action initiatives that activate the creativity and energy of the youth, primarily as the Public Relations Chair of Wavefarers, a Filipino youth environmental organization. She has also volunteered and participated in both Filipino and international socio-environmental nonprofits and initiatives. She explores poetry and graphic design as a medium for advocacy, and her work has been published in TLDTD (Feb 2022) and the Polyphony Student Journal.
