Irma Pineda (Juchitán, Oaxaca, México, 1974). Professor at the National Pedagogical University and advisor to the Federal Chamber of Deputies. Her essays have been published by the University of Siena, Italy; and, in Mexico, by the University of the Isthmus, the General Directorate of Popular Cultures (DGCP, from its name in Spanish) and the Guerrero A.C. College. She is the author of several books of bilingual poetry, the most recent being Naxiña’ Rului’ladxe’-Rojo Deseo (2018) and Chupa Ladxidua’- Dos es mi Corazón (2018). She was president of the organization of Indigenous Language Writers (ELIAC, from its name in Spanish); and received scholarships from the National Fund for Culture and Arts (FONCA, from its name in Spanish) and from the National System of Art Creators (SNCA, from its name in Spanish) of the Secretary of Culture of México. Currently Irma is the Representative of the Indigenous Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean in the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII), for the period 2020-2022.
