Closing remarks to the 2020 National Climate Change Consciousness Week, organized by the Climate Change Commission in partnership with the Women and Earth Initiative (WORTH) and Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC)

I would like to share with you two important takeaways from this event:

First is that the policy and planning agenda plays an important role in breaking the criticism of a siloed approach in addressing climate change, health, and gender impacts. Insights from the breakout discussions show that there is much room for improvement in our existing processes, and even more opportunities for synergy between the initiatives of agencies, experts, academic institutions, and civil society.

Second is that local stories and experiences are powerful tools in understanding the realities on the ground and addressing issues with timely and effective climate adaptation and mitigation strategies. The sharing from the Agam Agenda is one example of the power of narratives to tell powerful stories that can bring forth crucial discussions on women, climate vulnerability and more. Thanks to the active participation of local government units (LGUs) and other local stakeholders in these types of discussions, local voices are also now taken into consideration in major decision-making processes.

The sharing from the Agam Agenda is one example of the power of narratives to tell powerful stories that can bring forth crucial discussions on women, climate vulnerability and more.

Together we can support both national and local government’s efforts in ensuring the achievement of our commitments to ambitious and targeted international cooperation such as the Beijing Platform for Action +25 and the submission of the Nationally Determined Contribution due on the midnight of the 31st of December this year.

I would like to thank our colleagues from national agencies, local government, experts and academe, and organizations, as well as our colleagues from the Women and Earth Initiative (WORTH) for joining us in this event to celebrate the 2020 National Climate Change Consciousness Week by deep-diving into the complex and important topics. Congratulations to our colleagues in the Climate Change Commission.
Maraming salamat at magandang tanghali!
